Depending on the length you are willing to go, expect to spend a minumum of 10 thousand for granite counters and a simple cabinet refacing. You'll spend upwards 30 thousand for new cabinets, granite and appilances. Don't forget the flooring; add another thousand for hardwoods, or 500 for tiles.

It will of course depend on how much you and your wife want to remodel and how expensive your taste is. If you want a complete overhaul, you could be looking at anywhere from 5-10 thousand dollars. Change only what you must if you're trying to save money.
