A hematoma is usually the technical name for a bruise. A bruise is usually a small broken blood vessel under the skin. Left alone your body will take care of it in a few days to a week. If it's in a position that's causing problems your health provider can give you more specific suggestions.

There is no straightforward answer to this. It depends on the site, size, and type of hematoma. If it is the result of surgery, for example, you may just have to wait and see – it is difficult to say if the clotted blood will liquify all in one go.

It should only take one time, assuming a proper drain or wick is placed. Failure indicates inadequate opening of it or a recurrent bleed.

Hematomas can occur in any mammal and as a consequence of injury or surgery. Often it is necessary to drain the hematoma only once as the area heals; occasionally, especially if the drainage site is not well protected as it heals, it will have to be drained multiple times.
