There are two semesters per year in the average American high school. Depending on how the ciriculum is set up a student takes between four and seven classes during those two semesters. In some high schools however, during a student's senior year he or she can choose to finish getting all their needed credits during their first semester.

There are two semesters in each year at a U. S. high school, usually lasting 16 to 18 weeks each. Some schools in the U. S. work on a trimester system in which the year is divided into three terms.
