Question by  WhatsHerName (41)

How many photos can fit on a 40 gb flash drive?

I'm going on a trip and want to make sure I have a flash drive that's big enough.

Quantity of photos depends upon size of photos being taken and the resolution they are shot at. For 3x5 photos shot at high resolution, you can generally figure on 1 MB per photo using a 10 megapixel camera.

That depends on the resolution that your pictures will be taken in. At the highest resolution available today, you'll still be able to fit thousands on a 40g flash drive.

The number of photos you can store can vary greatly, based on the cameras resolution and compression methods. At 10 Megapixels, a safe, realistic estimate would be 15,000 photos.

To know for sure you should check to see the average file-size of you camera pictures. Copy some pictures to a pc and look at the sizes. Take the average size and divide the actual drive capacity to estimate the amount of pictures that will fit. The actual drive size is always slightly smaller than the advertised disk capacity.
