There are many manufacturers of basketballs and each manufacture creates different designs which means their basketball might have less or more dots. Dots on a basketball are put there so it won't slip through a players hands. As a general rule of thumb a basketball has between 30, 000 and 41,000 dots depends on manufacture.

there are lots of dots on a basketball. i do not think you can actually count the actual amount of dots on a basketball though and if you can that would be an amazing thing to accomplish and everything and according to some research there are about 122 dots per square inch

It all depends on the size of the ball, but for the most part there are around 35,000 dots on a basketball.
