How long does thyroid medication take to have effect on the body?

The body is sensitive to thyroid medication. Usually a low dose is given to start and then increased as needed. Contact your physician if you feel it's not working.

This depends on what you are taking the tyroid medication for either hyperthyroidism (over active thyroid) or hypothyroidism (under active thyroid). Generally the meds for over active thyroids work quickly and the others work more slowly.

It usually takes three to four weeks to make a difference in how you feel. For your body to fully feel back to normal it takes 3 or more months.
