There are a variety of medications for hypothyroidism. The medication and dosing will be chosen based on your individual situation. Because of the complex nature of these medications, write down all your questions and talk to your doctor for a full understanding.

A thyroid condition, which in this case is an under active gland, requires the careful titration and addition of artificial thyroid hormones. The most usual medication given would be Thyroxin, which will increase activity of the gland.

Synthroid is a common medication for underactive thyroid. It may take awhile to find the dose that works best for you. This medicine can cause hunger and you may feel hyper but with time these symptoms can even out.

They will give you medicine which will try to mimic the natural thyroid hormone in your body. There are natural thyroid medications such as armour thyroid and there are also synthetic products such as levothyroxine.
