How long can we leave a hamster alone when we go on vacation?

Can we leave water and food in advance?

I would never leave any small animal by itself longer than a couple of days. Some animals when given large amounts of food will actually eat themselves to death and you can never guarantee how much they will or will not drink.

I asked this same question when I left for a vacation last year. The vet told me that I could put out plenty of water and food and they will be fine. I left for vacation ( 10 days), and returned to happy little guys. So happy vacationing.

Your Hamster would probably last about two days before it knocked over the food and/or ran out of water. I would not leave your pet alone. Find someone who is willing to watch your hamster for you. Even if you have to find someone and pay them, just do it. You could find out if your vet does pet sitting.

Don't trust your hamster for too long; remember, it's a living being. Food and water will be okay for a maximum of three days, but the hamster will be lonely. Send someone to check every other day.
