Well, it is a long and tough process of distillation that will separate oil into petrol products as gasoline, etc. You might check out some chemistry sites for more help. The process is heating oil so the vapors get collected in different tanks that are used for different petrol products. Hope this helped.

Crude oil contains different hydrocarbons all mixed together and you need to seperate these by distillation. Heat the crude to 600C (1110F) and then force it into a distillation tower, the heavy parts stay near the bottom whilst the lighter parts rise. Gasoline will rise to almost the top as is an 8 hydrocarbon chain, then extract at that level.

The crude is sorted into light to heavy oils and the lightest stuff is where gasoline comes from and then as it gets heavier it goes to gas, kerosene and diseal fuel and on down the line to motor oil and seperated what they call refracturing tower where it is heated and allows it to seperate into different things.

The refining process is called distillation. This is when the gasoline will boil down to crude oil and be used further.
