The differences that they do have, with SD cards and other memory cards is mainly due to the manufacturer of the electronic. Sony has their own memory module. SD cards are the most widely used ones.
SD Card is equally good than other memory cards but some devices won't let you use it, like some digital cameras or some laptops that only read other formats and brands.
