It helps to trap the heat therefore makes the perm last longer and makes your curls last longer. That's the only reason that is garbage bag is used for in a spiral perm.

It doesn't have to necessarily be a garbage bag. In a salon it's called a processing bag. Perms are done by winding hair onto rods and applying liquid chemicals to change the chemistry of the hair and make the curls stay. The bag is used to assist the chemical reaction.

It is put on the head like a hat and the hair is inside and fixed, then it will be easy to heat the hair and get the ideal style.I think it is a white plastic bag.

It is used to cover spiral rolled hair during the processing stage of a perm service. There are too many rods for a regular processing cap to cover.

Actually, my hair is very long and I wanted a perm. The standard rods were too small so my stylist used trash bags instead and crunched them into tube shapes and wrapped my hair! It was amazing!!
