With my Jeep, I have been able to tow a front-wheel drive vehicle about 120 yards before I started to worry about the wear on my engine. My friend's F-150 was able to tow the vehicle three times that far. The front-wheel drive vehicle stalled at the end of our road and it was pointless to hire a tow-truck.

You can technically tow a vehicle indefinitely as long as the drive wheels (in this case, the front wheels) are off of the ground.
