Most touch pads today work by registering human touch by measuring the capacitive coupling between you and the device for tracking. It doesn't register with other materials; try any material

there are fine wires behind the cover screen that sense static electricity of your body, even works better on hot dry days. normally our body having some electric power/heat. the touch pad is working by this heat/electric power from our body. it's not a magic. this is one of normal process only.

A laptop touch pad is basically an inverted mouse without a ball. Instead of a ball running over a surface and relying to the computer where it is going, your finger moves across the touch pad and the signal is inputted to computer. You can place your finger anywhere on the touchpad and move from there.

It senses touch as a result of increased electrical current in a specific location.Knowing this location and moving your mouse indicator to the corresponding coordinates on your screen, it allows you to move your mouse to the desired creased pressure indicates a click, allowing you to work without a mouse.

In the laptop's touch pad the grid of wires are set up as individual capacitors, and a finger moving across them works to change the capacitance at a given intersection of wires. Touch pads are "tuned" in terms of capacitance to only allow objects of similar density to the human body to trigger them.

While fingers are touching on the touch pad, capacitance sensors is sense the corresponding sensor then it is processed through the electronic circuit which control the mouse pointer on screen.

It's sensitive to touch. It automatically detects the movements and/or direction of your finger, and moves the screen cursor in the same direction you move your finger. Just as the optical mouse works.

he bottom layer has thin wires in parallel rows horizontally. Then there is an insulator... Then the top layer has thin wires in parallel rows vertically.

Most computer touchpads, work on the principle of measurement and or change in capacitance of capacitance sensors embedded under the touch pad.

Why they works only with fingers and not with a pen, or any other thing? If is cause of heat, they must work with a hot object, if is due to electricity, they must work with metals. But why they don't work with nothing but fingers?
