The heat pump generates high temperatures on the coil in the air stream going to your house. To make heat there, cold is rejected to the water loop. The water loop runs down into the ground where it gets heated back up.

Geo-thermal heat pumps use the constant ground temperature, which is about 52 degrees Fahrenheit, to heat and cool your living space. Piping coils are buried 5 feet underground in your yard, and freon or water is circulated through the pipes and then through the heating system in your home or business.

The geo ground loop has a fairly constant temperature and uses water to tranfer heat into a reffrigerant loop that is used to eaither heat or cool a space. It's like running a conventional heat pump with an outside temp of 80 degrees year around.

AC Units greatly differ by brand. Since there are some many types of brands I would insist that you refer to your particular AC User Manual. They are quite useful.
