This is determined by the stage of the cancer and if it has spread to other organs or parts of the body. There are 4 stages of cancer with stage 4 being end stage of life. Doctors that specialize in cancer are called Oncologist and are very familar with the phases that determine it to be terminal.

The type and stage of cancer help to determine what treatment is necessary. Tests including CT scans, bone scans, MRI, and PET scans are performed to determine the extent or stage of lung cancer. Don't be afraid to ask questions; bring an advocate. Your doctor will provide you with the information you need.

Terminal lung cancer is the stage where all options given to the patient have failed and symptoms worsen. The symptoms these patients have are continued rapid weight loss, abnormal bowel movements, cancer that is spreading into other organs of the body, and continued abnormal blood tests.
