First, you have to melt the wax onto your board. When you have a sufficient amount, you want to spread it with your iron. You have to let the wax cool and remove extra. Then, polish your base. You can buy waxing kits, Burton Fluoro is a good one.

Lay your snowboard on an old sheet to prevent dripping. Use a quality board wax, heat it with an iron, and allow the wax to drip onto your board. Smooth the dipped wax on board with your iron. Allow wax to dry. Remove exess with scrapper. Smooth with abrasive pad.

I have heard that the best brand to use is called Zardoz Notwax. I've never tried it myself but I've heard nothing but good things about it. It is also supposed to be easier to apply than normal wax. I'd give it a try as it comes highly recommended. Good luck.
