A ringworm, also called Tinea is not really a worm. It is a skin disorder, visible on the skin, and it is caused by fungus and is not a worm. In order to treat it, keep skin dry. Apply antifungal products and make sure to wash sheets.

Ringworm of the skin can be treated with over the counter creams, lotions or powders that contain micanazole or coltrimazole. Ketocanazole is a prescription cream. Keep the skin clean and dry. Follow directions to complete medication. Prescription pills to kill this fungus can also be prescribed. Wash sheets and nightclothes daily until the infection subsides.
