How do you treat contact dermatitis from insect bites?

I'm allergic to something that bit me. How can I relieve the itching and redness associated with the bite and allergy?

This is a common reaction. Apply an anti-itch cream with cortizone (with Aloe is even better). If the cream is not effective enough, apply ice packs for 10 minutes.

Antihistamines usually will help in relief of itching. Hydrocortisone creams are applied to the skin for immediate relief. Calamine lotion, bathing with baking soda or colloidal oatmeal is another remedy.

usually an antihistamine tablet will reduce the itching and redness. You can also apply some caladryl or calamine lotion. Its also important to avoid scratching as this could aggravate the itch! Finally make sure that there is no infection - use a prescribed antibiotic if there is infection or pus.

Diphenhydramine (Benedryl) tablets and hydrocortisone cream can help relieve itching and/or burning sensations. Apis Mellifica is a popular homeopathic remedy normally stocked by health food stores. If your symptoms don't improve, consult your physician.

I find that any kind of hand cream or moisturizer helps. I prefer noxema because of the naturally cooling sensation. If you don't want to use creams an ice pack also works. If the allergic reaction if too severe something like Benydryll or an epipen may be good.
