The song is usually effective, but young children are often kinesthetic learners, meaning they need both audio and visual to learn and usually hands-on activities are the best way to teach them. Playing with ABC blocks with the child and saying the letter as he sees them or when he picks a block up could be another way to teach.

Another way to teach the ABC's would be to have an alphabet chart that the child can look at for visual learners or have the children make their own ABC book with pictures for each letter. You may also want to consider ABC magnets or blocks, or create an ABC game.
