There are many books for beginning knitting. It depends how old the child is. She can start off by making dish cloths or strapped handbags. This will all depend how she can hold the needles.

There are plenty of good guidebooks out there, to teach children knitting. I, however, find the best way for them to learn it is hands-on. Also, try to make sure the teacher has the same dominant hand (right-handed or left-handed) as the child. It makes it tons easier on everybody!
