How do you set up cable internet?

I refuse to pay for it.

Unfortunately you have to pay. The cable company actually controls where the signal goes via computer terminal you can't do the same tricks people do to get free cable. If it did work, it usually doesn't take long for them to figure it out and shut it off. You would be better off finding unsecured wireless networks near you.

Hmmm ... I suppose you might find someone else's "cable internet" which is set-up for "public" WiFi (wireless) access, or get a neighbor to share their access? You need a WiFi network card and probably a decent high-gain external-antenna. Some libraries & public schools may provide free dial-up internet access.
