How do you retrieve information off of a used Dell computer?

If the machine is not cleaned up, check the browser history and maybe some saved passwords. Be aware that there might be laws against such activity in your country. If it is already cleaned up, we're talking computer forensics, which is a field of expertise not a piece of cake. If she wiped it you're pretty much out of luck.

You can try to run a good data recovery programs at that computer, it will recover some of it's data
