My Dell needs a new power supply. Do I have to buy it from Dell?

It's way cheaper at a local computer repair shop, but Dell says I can damage the computer if I don't use their part.

You dont have to buy it from dell, there are several 3rd party companies who make power supplies. If this is for a laptop, you may want to use a dell model as it will generate an error if you dont.

No, you don't have to buy a new power supply from Dell for your computer, you should be able to find a replacement in a lot of places. The biggest thing to keep in mind is that you find a power supply that matches the specifications of your machine/battery. If you don't do this, you could damage your computer.

It depends on the model. Many older Dells required proprietary PSUs only made by Dell, but newer ones usually use standard ATX power supplies. You should search online by model name or number to find if yours can use a third party power supply.

You do not have to buy the power supply from Dell. Just be sure that the replacement part that you purchase was created as a replacement for your model of computer. If you are purchasing from an experienced computer repair shop then they should have no issue getting you the right product.

When you need a new power supply for your computer you can buy a aftermarket one, but you must make sure the voltage is the same voltage, you truly are better off buying one from Dell to make sure it works properly.
