My Nissan Sentra failed a smog test (too lean). How do I get it up to code?

You need to find out what is making it run lean. Make sure you have the right fuel pressure and that your fuel filter is clean. Sometimes a dirty maf sensor can cause this so use some electric part cleaner to clean it.

You probably need to do a simple tune up on the car. Replace the air oil and gas filters, pcv valve, spark plugs and wires. Oil change. You can also take your care to Advanced to get the codes run for free. Then replace the parts the codes are for (google the code for your car for help).

Sell it! But if you love your Sentra just replace air filter. Clean spark plug. Check Timing. Change oil and filter. Wash exhaust pipe. Tweak fuel pump a bit.

You will need to replace the liquid that has to do with your smog problem. Once you do have this particular liquid replaced then you should not have any further problems.
