In order to reset the computer to factory specification, you must insert the Dell System Restore CD that came with your PC. Restart your computer and it will boot into the restore mode. Choose to perform a factory restore. Please note that this will erase all your data and wipe the hard drive.

Click your start menu, and find the button reading "Shut Down". Click this, and either select Shut Down from the drop-down box, or click the large red Shut Down button.

You can reset a Dell Windows XP system by holding down the control, alt, and delete buttons at the same time. You will then be prompted to restart or shut down the system. If you would like to power it down entirely, you can also use the power button, or unplug directly from the wall.

If you have your Reboot CD, you can open it and reset everything from there. After you open the CD you should be able to access the programs and reinstall and reset XP. But if you don't have it, you may want to call Dell Customer service and have them walk you through the whole process.
