There are two ways to reset the check engine light. Your local auto parts store will probably do it for free or you can disconnect the battery for ten seconds and the computer will clear. Make sure that if your radio has security code, you have it handy to reactivate.

On my 2000 LeSabre ten seconds didn't work, two hours didn't work, leaving it disconnected over night worked.  add a comment

To reset this, you have to hook it up to acomputer that analyzes problems with your car, most repair shops can do this for you, especially your local buick dealer.

A few different places are able to do this. A Buick dealership can do it but they might charge for it. Many other places will do it for free such as autoparts stores and some oil change centers also.

The best way is to use a ODBII scan tool. Otherwise you can disconnect the battery for a few minutes. This method will reset other electronics also though.

The best way to reset a car's computer is to use a hand-held code scanning tool. An alternative is to remove negative battery cable for a few minutes. However this will reset other electrical components like the stereo and can mess with anti-theft systems.

You can try to unhook the battery from your car and after a few minutes you can hook it back up and that may reset the engine light. If that does not work you can go to Aut Zone and they will shut the light off for you. They just hook up the computer and it is free.

The on-board computer has dedicated switsch. You find it under the steering wheel. You will need a pencil to insert into the dedicated spot, and there you go.
