Often you have to remove the damaged yard and replace with sod or add topsoil and reseed. But the main thing is either way you solve the problem you got to get those kids and dogs off the grass as they always go in a path that wears the lawn.

Cover the worn spots on your lawn with a mix of fertilizer and dirt, then sprinkle on some grass seed. Be sure to water the spots twice a day for the first week, if there is no rain and every other day after that until grass appears.

The best way is to tear out all existing lawn, get a good grade of topsoil laid, and then apply a thorough coating of the best lawn seed or seed mix available. The best time to do this is in the fall or early spring, to allow the seed to take root.
