Remove the defective diesel fuel pump if it is on the tank or in the tank. Once it is been removed go ahead and install the new fuel pump.

I assume it would be repaired similar to a normal gas pump. Just buy a rebuild kit and replace whatever piece that have worn or broken.

Normally you cannot repair the fuel pump. You would have to buy a new or rebuilt unit and replace the old worn out one.

Diesel fuel pumps are not generally repaired. Replacing the fuel pump with the sending unit is usually the best fix.

you need to inspect the pump and see if it can be repaired. sometimes it is cheaper to buy a new pump than to rebuild a worn out pump that will not last.
