Saliva will break down the blood in the stain and help with removal, and my grandma swears it's doubly true if the saliva has the same owner as the blood. However, peroxide is pretty much guaranteed to remove a blood stain. Lastly, lemon juice or club soda can sometimes be effective.

Soak the stains with full-strength hydrogen peroxide, purchased in the bottle. Allow it to bubble. Rinse with plain water. Soak the stains again. Five or six applications should be enough. Then wash with a high-quality detergent such as Tide, along with a laundry booster such as borax. Softener will also help to loosen the stains.
