Press the start button then the control panel. Select "Network Connection", and right-click your network adapter. Click properties. In the dialog box, click "Internet Protocol - TCP/IP" and click "properties". Click the radio next to "obtain an ip address automatically". Press ok. Close out of the properties box.

There are two common ways to set an IP address for a host, a static IP or a dynamic IP. to release a dynamic IP click on start > run > type "cmd" > hit OK > type "ipconfig /release". Static IP addresses cannot be released as they are assigned manually, and can be changed in the control panel.

Technically, there is no concept of releasing static IPs. Its applicable only in case of dynamic ips - so that by releasing an old one, you get a new one.
