On a metric ruler, the largest rulings are centimeters, and the ten smaller rulings are tenths of centimeters, or millimeters.

The smallest unit is the millimeter. Ten millimeters add up to one centimeter. One hundred centimeters in turn make up one meter, which is the height of a small child.
