How do you prevent paint from peeling?

The best way is to put some sort of sealant coat over the top of the paint and keep the surface out of extreme temperatures and weather conditions.

Now days paint should never peel, it must be older paint. If there is a problem with paint peeling with newer paint then I would say the walls were not prepared right. Many wall needs a complete sanding down to get old loose paint up and loose wall spots off. Sand, prime and then paint.
