Starting Rose of Sharon seeds is easy! Plant the seeds 1/2" deep in individual 4" pots either in a greenhouse, in a sunny window, or outside during warm weather. Use a good potting soil or peat moss. Keep the soil barely moist. Plant in ground when about 6" tall.

Plant the seeds in the garden bed about 1 to 2 feet apart and make sure the area contains plenty of sunlight. Water the plants daily and apply a thin layer of mulch around the base of the plant in the early summer. Remove any dead or diseased branches, and prune the stems back to encourage growth.

Rose of Sharon is a very prolific tree. It has many flowers and once the flowers dry and fall off, the seeds are inside the flower and it self-seeds all over the place. If you would like to plant a seed directly from the spent flower, just peel off the flower and stem and place the seed in the ground.

It should be planted abot 1/4" deep in a pot of soil. Keep it hydrated but not too soggy. Warm weather is sdvisable. Plant them indoors for the first 4-6 weeks.
