Question by  Jenno (57)

How do you plant a staghorn fern?

I would appreciate advice on the soil and container.

They do better attaching themselves to tree trunks or something so they can catch any water that runs off the trunk. You can use containers but attaching them to a board and hanging in the shade is recommended. Set on sphagnum moss, attach to board with wire, and hang.

Use a piece of hardwood as "container". Position the fern in the center of the board and make two marking at either side of the fern. Nail two nails into the board at the markings. Soak sphagnum moss in water for 24 hours and then remove excess water. Place moss between two nails and place fern on top of moss.
