You will need to use a flat-head screwdriver to pry the top cover off starting with the edges. Then lift the cover and remove the 2 screws on the metal plate. Pry the bottom cover off the same way as the top. Find the metal clip and pry it out.

Pry the plastic cover off of the front. Using a screwdriver remove the two screws on the plate and slide the back cover off. Pry the metal clip found on the bottom out of the ipod. Locate and disconnect the mother board and remove it by pushing it up. Align the new battery and put everythin back together.

You aren't generally supposed to change the battery, you charge Ipods, but if you must open it, because you really feel you need a new battery, the back slides off if you use enough force, however.. this voids your warranty.

Take plastic pry tool to covers, pry edges first. Remove metal plate, bottom metal clip, disconnect and remove motherboard, remove battery. Replace new battery, work backwards to replace removed items.
