How do you move a tensioner for belt replacement?

To move you have to have a proper wrench and socket depending on vehicle and year. Then you should be able to feel the spring retract back as you put pressure on the tool your using. Usually it's counter clockwise. If the bolt is loosing the tensioner off then your going the wrong way.

Well you could try confessing to it and promise to repent. Usually there are bolts holding the tensioner in place. Loosen these and the tensioner should move.
