Send them a e-mail or message them just don't tell too much about yourself,like where you live,school,phone number,real name and you'll be pretty much safe.

Usually I am making friends online in the sites where you can place your photo and see other's photos, profiles. It is safe if you do not give other people your phone number or place where you live. It is better if you meet friends that you know and not from internet.
