Drying papaya is time consuming, but inexpensive. Wash and peel fruit, cut slices 1/2" thick, place on parchment paper on baking sheets, and place in 200 degree oven for approximately 8 hours. Using a higher heat may cause fruit to burn. Store in airtight containers.

You can air dry papaya if you live in a hot enough climate. If not, you would need an oven or a dehydrator. If you leave the fruit out in the sun, it will take a few days to dry.

You can dry papaya (diced or strips) in a very low oven or in a food dehydrator. The pieces should be coated with sugar so they don't get tough.

I think the best thing you can do is buy a food dehydrator. You could just put some real papaya in one of those. I have no idea if it would taste the same. It might be worth it for you to at least give it a shot, and maybe even do a little research to see if it works
