Well unless your car prematurely experience running issues then I would say every couple of thousand miles. It will really depend on the car though. Learn to do it yourself and you will save a lot of time and money.
I know a vehicle has recently been tuned up because it the engine runs much smoother at lower RPM, there is a slight increase in performance, and the engine starts eaiser when it is cold.
