How do you know when dumbells are too heavy for lifting?

You know that dumbbells are to heavy for lifting when you can only do 1-2 reps. If only you are trying to build mass, do a max of 3-5 reps of the heaviest weight. However, if you are trying to tone up your muscles, do a lot of reps 12-15 reps of 3 sets. Goodluck!

Dumbells are too heavy if you are unable to pick them up, or you are not able to do a set of at least 5 reps with the dumbells. Heavy dumbells will also cause a very uncomfortable pain in the arm.
