You don't. My husband went in for a colonoscopy of the large intestine and they found nothing. The tube with the light, accidently slipped into the small intestine and they found three which they snagged and removed. Normal colonoscopy is done of the large intestine only and not the small.

Well, you would have pain as when the food passed through the small intestine, it would aggravate the polyps. The only way to know is to go and see a doctor that specializes in the digestive system and have tests done. Polyps are very painful, and can get big enough to block feces. Find a doctor.

As far as I know, the main test used to determine polyps in the small intestine is a small bowel series (SBS). A tech will have you drink an icky concotion of barium and possily an iodine based liqiud and take x-rays periodically as it moves through your system.

I would talk to my physician and explain why I think I have polyps as well as my concerns about having them. Should the doctor dismiss my concern, I would ask for a special lab test for small intestine polyps. The test should provide a definative answer.

To detect polyps you have to have a colonoscopy by a doctor. If you are having bleeding or discomfort check with your doctor and see if there is anything that he can help you with. Changing your diet or watching the amount and time you eat my aid your symptoms.
