Ask them who accredits them (such as Southern Association of Colleges and Schools) and verify it. Also check their nonprofit status and be weary of any trade school that's for profit. When in doubt, stick with a public state supported school in your state. Also, make sure there is a real campus you can visit, not just online courses offered.

Do you have to attend classes to receive your diploma? If you can just enroll directly by paying them and they mail you the diploma, it is obviously a phony. Do beware of online courses where you do research by yourself and take online classes. Some of those may be fake. Search for the company online before you get scammed.

Contact the Better Business Bureau. Think long and hard about this. You don't get something for nothing. If they are offering you a diploma for doing minimal work they its probably a phony. Local city and state colleges are usually legit and the education is worth the time.
