AKC's breed website and Sheltie Talk (book) have good explanations with nice diagrams. Basically, tape/glue 8-20 week puppy ears into PRECISELY the conformation they should assume; this means using gentle support on the underside since the ear shouldn't "kink" but roll gently forward naturally. Not every puppy's ears will cooperate, no matter your efforts; some Shelties just have prick-ears.

No don't use moleskin. You need to glue them down using something called Tear Mender which you can get at a farm supply store. It won't hurt your Sheltie and it will last for a really long time. Give him/her treats to keep distracted from them. Air will circulate perfectly using this method. Don't worry.

You can use some moleskin in order to keep the ears of your sheltie down.Use also some glue to make this operation more effective and after that, you will see that the output of your operation is successful.
