The same way you highlight any hair, with bleach or blonde color. That is something you want a pro to do because it is easy to mess up.

You can either use a cap or foils to do the highlights. And then choose the color of lift that you want. If you want caramel then you want to use a lower level of developer, if you and blonde highlights I would suggest a developer of 40 for maximum lift. You might also want to use a toner.

You can do it at home if you like-- it's cheaper than at the salon. Make sure you but something meant for brunettes, as some bleaches will make dark brown go brassy (orange). Also, don't use at-home highlights if you have been using henna to color your hair-- your highlights will go green. Just follow the instructions with the kit.

Go to a salon and have a professional stylist help you. If you just get highlights, it is less expensive and doesn't take as long, compared to highlights and an all over color, which would be more expensive. There are kits to do highlights at home, but you may not be successful.

If your hair has not been previously colored you can highlight your hair with regular hair color a few tones lighter than your natural color. If you want a lighter color or you have dye in your hair, you need to used a highlight product with bleach. Small strands of hair will separated and the bleaching product will be applied.

The best way to highlight any hair is to use foils to do so. It really depends on how long the hair is. If you have shorter hair you can use a cap to highlight it but with foils your stylist is more purposeful with the placement of the highlights in your hair.

You can buy a highligh kit, which contains a cap in which you will pull hair to be highlighted through. Apply the lightener for appropriate time and wash out.

In order to highlight a dark toned hair a lighter toned color ie; blonde or red can be used to highlight the brown.

Go to the hair dresser they will pick a great color that will compliment you natural hair color. Then they'll tone it so that the color looks natural.

I would recommend going to a hairdresser because sometimes the chemicals in the boxes can react badly with your hair color. If you use a box, make sure to wear the gloves and choose a color that will complement brown.

Box or salon, there is "Sun In" which is bleach that can be sprayed on to highlight, and then the salon where there are experts.
