In most cell phones, the power terminals are the outer-two terminals. The inner two are for a "regulation chip" to make sure that the battery is legitimate. By bypassing/it,/you/can/hardwire/a/battery/to/it. That/makes/more/sense/than/wiring/a/battery/to/charge/it.
