How do you go about laying carpet on the stairs?

Starting from the top of the stairway and working your way downward, you tack the carpet to the back uppers of the wood stairs as you descend. Under each step, you tack the carpet snugly to ensure that no one slips as a result of loose carpeting when coming down the stairs.
