How do you go about defragging a Mac hard drive?

open "disk utility" program which is located in "utilities" folder of "application" directory . highlight your hard drive from the list and have the program repair permissions look for a program to defrag you computer take steps backup your harddrive before defragment it these last step is easy for you

In general, defragmentation isn't required on Mac hard drives - there is no significant drop in performance on a fragmented hard drive. Thus, there is no defragmentation software provided by Apple (like the Windows utility). There are third party utilities you may use to defragment your drive, like Disc Warrior and iDefrag.

Mac harddrives do not need defragmentation, as they do it automatically when being idle. Mac OS automatically sorts files better to begin with aswell.
