You can grow magnolia trees from seed, but it is not the easiest thing to do. The seeds have to be rubbed to remove the outer coating before planting. Also, the seeds have a VERY short shelf life, and will dry out and not come up if you wait too long. Plant when temperature is around 40 degrees.

If you have access to a magnolia, once the pods fall to the ground, they are rich in seeds, and propagate well. Otherwise, there are resources on the WEB

Soak hard seeds in warm water overnight, then remove the coating with your fingers to reveal the black seed. Place the seeds on a warm paper towel inserted into a baggie, opening occasionally to allow air. Germination may take up to four weeks, then plant as you would like any plant.

Frist of all, seeds ripen in septemper and october, they seem to ripening sooner these days. If you are growing tree from seeds means it won't bloom for 15-20 years. They take more time to mature and bloom. After that the beautifull magnolia blossom from a tiny bud to the formation of the seed pod.

The soil should be kept moist until the magnolia seeds germinate. After germination the seedlings could be transferred to a pot after a month.
