You will first need a degree in Public Relations. Some other concentrations that are closely related include Journalism, Communications, Marketing or English. A strong track record of dealing with people or the public is also useful in helping you obtain a job in PR.

In order to enter the public relations field, you will generally need a degree in journalism or communications. In addition, you will also need to develop an extensive database of key media contacts (this is the foundation of PR) and you will also need to become well versed in a chosen field or niche (i.e., fashion, music, business, etc.).

You are probably going to have to take the civil service test. I applied for a public relations position with RTA and they told me I have to do the civil service exam because of the job dealing with people and media.

Generally you need to know the ins and outs of the company very well, you have to work your way up from an entry level position.
