To get a divorce you have to wait six months for everyting to be final. Gather all financial information, close joint accounts and take them to your lawyer. If children are involved discuss custody, if nothing is agreed upon talk to your lawyer about custody.

Simply go to the courthouse and file the papers. In California you do not require a lawyer, or the other party's consent. Simply file the papers and do what they say. If you want a lawyer, or if you have lots of expensive assets, make sure you get a good one.

Two options: 1) you can hire a lawyer by giving them a retainer of about $5,000. Regardless of how quickly things can be settled between you and your spouse, there is still a 6 month waiting period before you can get married again. The second option, file your own papers at the court house, pay a fee, so much cheaper.
